What is personal branding and why is it important?

Have you encountered the term “personal branding” and found yourself curious about its meaning? Well, wonder no longer! In this essay, I will explain what personal branding is, why it is essential, and give my experience of how it assisted me in building my profession. I will also provide some examples.

To explain it another way, personal branding is the process of developing a distinctive identity for oneself and then communicating that identity to the outside world. Putting on display who you are, what you believe in, and what you have to offer is an essential part of it. If you do this, you will be able to expand your business or profession because it will set you up as an authority in your industry, help you build trust with potential clients and consumers, and ultimately lead to growth.

However, developing a memorable tagline and a striking logo are not the only aspects of personal branding that are important. It’s about being aware of who you are and what sets you apart from others. Finding your own voice and being who you are without apology is an essential part of this.

I did not have a personal brand when I began my professional life. I was just a copywriter working towards establishing a reputation in the industry. But as I started to grow my portfolio and attract more clients, I understood that I needed to differentiate myself from the other writers in the field. I needed to locate my sweet spot and establish myself as an authority in my chosen sector.

As a result, I embarked on an introspective journey. I asked myself, “What makes me unique? What are some of my best qualities? What do I provide that no one else provides? No one else does it.” These were challenging questions, but I began to unearth some essential takeaways as I looked deeper.

I realised I had a talent for writing exciting and approachable content for a broad audience. I could condense complex concepts into language that was easy to grasp, and I possessed a unique voice that helped people connect with me on a personal level. But more than that, I realised I strongly desired to assist others. My goal was to apply my writing abilities in a way that would positively affect the world.

After gaining these new perspectives, I could move on with developing my personal brand. I decided to promote my writing abilities, personality, and the things necessary to me on a website I designed. I started promoting my work on social media and making connections with other authors and business people in the same industry as me. And most importantly, I started being myself without apology and in an honest manner.

The outcomes blew everyone away. I observed an increase in the chances available to me as I worked towards establishing myself as an authority in my industry and cultivating relationships with potential clients and customers. I gained greater recognition in my field, which led to additional opportunities to speak and write and more engagements.
